…Place in Which to Do Our Trading?
Mrs. William Bain of Rapid River won the prize for the best essay on the subject “Why Is Baudette The Best Place In Which To Do Our Trading:“
The two most obvious reasons why we should do our marketing in Baudette instead of elsewhere may be discussed under the divine doctrines of love, “Live and Let Live” and “In Union There is Strength”. There is great satisfaction when purchasing an article to see it, compare and consider its quality and adaptability, obtain immediate possession of it with the added advantage of being able to make adjustments without delay and to converse with your dealer whom you’ll always find courteous and desirous to please. Being surrounded by a “homey” atmosphere you cannot feel otherwise than that we are all working for the upbuilding of a common cause – – our county seat and the territory surrounding it within the bounds of Lake of the Woods County.
The attitude of our people demonstrated by the interest shown in our annual fairs and market days, also in the spirit of cooperation existing between the town and country folks, mark our people as being imbued with the noble feeling of “Live and Let Live!”
Baudette furnishes a market for our timber products, our dairy products and our agricultural products, and maintains a first class High School to which our most important farm product is invited, welcomed and taught on equal footing with his town cousin, insuring him the same foundation for success in life. Why then should we not give Baudette merchants our hearty support? The prosperity of the county depends largely upon the prosperity and progressiveness of its towns and vice versa. Let’s all work for the advancement of conditions of which we may well feel proud! Let’s all work for harmony, not for friction! Unity is a wonderful thing, for in union there is strength. Does not the eagle even, old and wise, in his hasty flight proclaim: “E Pluribus Unum!”
