The Round Robin

Glory be to it

The Robin goes ’round ‘mong relatives dear,
Harbinger of happiness, it brings mostly cheer.
Tells of arrivals, of bundles of joy,
Every child welcome, be it girl, be it boy.
Tells how one’s time is spent with parties and things.
Tells how the years fly by on gaudy wings.
Never a moment could be called dull
Not one single hour you would annul.
Consider us lucky this mixed-up clan.
We’re all pretty healthy; seems sickness we ban.
We have a few ailments and grouch quite a bit.
But still all in all we keep very fit.
An exception ls Charlet, as it really does look
That more than her share we’ll record ln the book.
Now you can take Lois, “Dear” to us all
We’d like very much upon her to call.
Away ln Detroit live Helen and Dale.
To see them so seldom would about make one wail.
Pam is their progeny; she’s light and fleet.
Dances some time away on her little feet.
Vera’s a going, her girls “coming out”
Have now their own boyfriends without any doubt.
Eunice ‘way down there has two of a kind,
A lovely mother her Auntie did find.
Ervin and Marion think Florida grand,
Erv and our Uncle Sam go hand-in-hand.
Frances has darling girls; she can justly feel proud,
Understands how to handle them, we all allowed.
Ella I’d like to see; “Fisher” is her name,
When I was a kid, our town bore the same.
Ethel’s a grandma two times seventeen
It makes one like me with envy turn green.
What of Adeline? ‘Way down in the state,
Of all those big fishes they like to relate.
Patti often comes home without any fuss,
She takes baby Curtis and steps into the bus.
And as for Evelyn, a grandma is she,
Proud of her grandson; why shouldn’t she be?
He is a dandy (I must have my say)
A boy in our branch; he’s saving the day.
Anne is industrious out in the West
She and her Bobby knew just what was best.
Ida and Dean left us you know,
We all loved the two, so that was a blow.
Lonnie and Vernon expect in the spring,
Now we are wondering what the old bird will bring.
The Coope girls are nice everyone must agree,
But preferred to change names for a very small fee.
Come see our new bridge; they’re unloading it now,
Throwing off all that steel makes it noisy and how!
A gay cabinet we’ve installed, if you come here to sup
I can serve you your tea in a bone China cup.
I am getting wound up; rhyming’s such fun,
Still I feel inside me I should’ve never begun
If you lend me an ear, I’ll tell you just why,
When I think how we’re scattered, it near makes me cry.
But still with the Robin we can keep in touch
With nieces and cousins with grandmas and such.
I’ll say now. ”Au Revoir” and a Happy New Year,
May God Bless you all. How—“I WISH YOU WERE HERE.”
