This is dedicated to the Memory of Thomas Catheart, Ole & Helic Clementson, James Williams and Frank Mime, who left an indelible mark for good on this section of Minnesota
They blazed the frontier trail
We followed in their wake,
Those lusty pioneers of ours,
Think what they did forsake!
The Rainy bid them linger
Flowing gaily on its way,
And the picture and the fishing
‘Round the rapids at the bay.
The giant spruce, the soughing pine,
To wealth. of forest explore;
The river like a ribbon lay
To float the products past the door.
They were dauntless and courageous
As soldiers of the ranks,
When he took, each man his station
Along the Rainy’s banks.
The highway was the river,
The woodlands were untracked;
They build log houses all hard by
But many things they lacked.
In their vocabulary
There were no such words as “fail”,
While enduring all the hardships
Of the ones that break the trail.
They gave the hand of fellowship
Unto their fellowman,
Their hospitality marked them great
In our Creator’s plan.
